Haiti Tech Summit is Opening The Way to a Tech Revolution in Haiti
The largest tech event in the Caribbean; that is the way Haiti Tech Summit has been described by team members and participants, who see the event as a potential tool to help change the negative narrative about the Haiti “I was tired of people considering me as the only entrepreneurs from Haiti in every event that I go, and I know, I needed to do something about it” explains Christine Souffrant Ntim, the founder of HTS. Mrs. Ntim, works remotely with a team of young Haitians from different part of the world to assure the success of the first edition of the largest Tech summit in the Caribbean.
The impact of the event can still be felt and inspires many new ideas, and encourage Facebook to come to Haiti to implement its first Developers Circle in Port au Prince, a program led by Matt Terrell. Other initiatives such as Startups Grind by Google, have been put in place to encourage young Haitian Entrepreneurs to develop new Startups ideas. New businesses like Banj also emerged to accelerate the startup’s sector, young people in Haiti are embracing the opportunity to revolutionize the tech industry across the country. On the other hand, the Haitian government is taking steps to facilitate tech startups. The current president of Haiti, Mr. Jovenel Moise, who attended the event, create a special commission on technology to help develop incubators for new startups around the country, a promise he has made during his speech at the opening of HTS at Decameron, one of the first all-inclusive hotel in Haiti.
HTS without a doubt is opening the way to a tech revolution in Haiti, and a significant number of people, mostly young people are ready to help in the process. “The dynamic team behind this highly anticipated event has evolved its organization to lead critical aspects of the Summit experience.According to their press release in October this year. Naisha Siva has been appointed by Christine Souffrant Ntim, as the Executive Director of the event. Ms. Silva is also part of the Google team, where she works as Project Manager and oversees initiative that drives Google’s innovation hiring practices. Leadership on the team also includes: Einstein Ntim: Head of Finance, Mildred Louis: Head of Media & Communications, Shaina Silva: Head of Branding & Experience, Marc Alain Boucicault: Head of Local Partnerships & Tours, Christian Roy Fombrun: Head of International Partnerships, Daphnee Charles: Head of Community Engagement, Vanessa Philogene: Social Media Lead, Davidson Toussaint: Multimedia Strategist.
